OPINION: Masinenge noise falls on deaf ears

The situation is getting progressively worse.

The level of noise from Masinenge over the Easter weekend was totally unbearable. Then, a few nights later it started up again.

Thursday, May 1 was a public holiday and it basically continued right through the night, on to Friday and Saturday.

It’s a violation of the bylaws regarding noise and creating a nuisance.

It doesn’t help calling protection services as they don’t answer and if they do, you are informed that there aren’t any vehicles or people on duty. Trying to get a reference number is virtually impossible.

This has been getting systematically worse over the years.

Residents of Ward 19 have been complaining about this matter, to our ward councillor, as well as the superintendent of protection services, when and if he attends the monthly meeting along with Saps.

Nothing seems to be done and RNM seem to think that it’s acceptable for ratepayers to be inconvenienced by a non ratepaying community which doesn’t adhere to the RNM bylaws or any laws regarding noise, alcohol sales, drugs and prostitution, which is openly being conducted in the area.
