Tidy Towns Pennington initiated a clean up of Pennington Drive last week, employing the services of the Pennington casuals.
They donated rakes and brooms, and provided buckets, brushes and black bin bags.
It was amazing to see all the casuals out in their vests – and see how much can be achieved in a few hours.
A huge thanks to Malcolm Fredericks for supervising and co-ordinating the casuals. Did you know that apart from the eight casuals that Tidy Towns paid for on the day, 12 more casuals jumped in and volunteered and worked for free on the day, to show their commitment.
Malcolm personally provided them with some remuneration for the day.
Thanks must also go to Bonny Brook residents: Cherry Grant who provided sandwiches for the 20 workers; Chalkie Whyte for spraying the weeds on the pathway; Michelle Edwards-Hainsworth for supplying cold drinks; Janice Mayne Dreyer whose gardener cleared the vegetation on the road side and Mark Arde of Penbrook Gardens for bringing his chainsaw and cutting some strelitzias.
World Ocean Day: There will be an Umkomaas beach clean up this Sunday (8th) at 14:00. We need you to help make a difference. Beach clean up zones are: (area 1) from Umkomaas lodge to Rozel organised by Blue Ocean and (area 2) from Rozel parking lot to Mahlongwane River organised by Ocean Warriors.
Security is provided by Gladiator. Refreshments are available for volunteers. Grab your sun hat and gloves.
