The release of Umdoni Municipality’s 2025 Mayoral Imbizo schedule excludes Ward 10 and Ward 15, two DA-led wards.
This omission is not an administrative oversight, but a direct contradiction of the Local Government Systems Act 32 of 2000, which compels municipalities to: “encourage and create conditions for the local community to participate in the affairs of the municipality.”
By excluding these wards, the ANC-run Umdoni Municipality is deliberately sidelining communities that:
– Contribute significantly to municipal revenue;
– Rightfully demand accountability, and deserve quality service delivery;
– Have legitimate grievances requiring leadership’s attention.
What justification can possibly exist for ignoring these communities?
The DA will not allow this to go unnoticed. We will continue to keep ratepayers informed with honesty and transparency, that is what the DA stands for. Our proven record of clean governance, accountability, and efficient service delivery is why we succeed where we govern. Communities under DA leadership know that their voices are heard, their concerns are acted on, and their municipalities work for them, not against them.
We demand from ANC mayor Mbali Cele-Luthuli, that she applies the principles of fairness and equality by including Wards 10 and 15.
The ANC must understand that good governance treats all communities equally and does not weaponize government services to punish communities that speak out against corruption and abuse.
Ratepayers deserve respect. Residents deserve a voice. Democracy demands accountability.
