OPINION: Shadows on the wall

A poem from Siane Moodley from Port Shepstone.

She was broken by the trauma,

that should have never been

She survived storms

no one else saw-

a wound carved by hands that mistook violence for power,

winds that bruised her spirit,

and a night that tried to erase her name.

Her body, ripped apart and left to the embrace of her mother.

To the world she was missing

but to the earth she was sinking in.

Her tears fell but the world’s conscience slept,

Justice faltered, and promises went unkept.

And so her story lingers, woven into the air we breathe,

A haunting whisper, a call to heed,

A reminder, a warning, a plea that’s borne

Let no more lives be lost, let no more hearts be torn.

Let silence shatter, let voices rise

Let the echoes of courage down the cries.
