In a statement, the family said: “It is with great sadness that the family wishes to confirm the passing of Tokollo ‘Magesh’ Tshabalala. Magesh, as he was affectionately known, passed away on Monday morning as a result of an epileptic seizure. The family requests privacy during this difficult period. All details pertaining to his memorial and funeral service will be shared in due course.”
The Inkatha Freedom Party in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature also released a statement on Tshabalala’s death.
IFP spokesperson for Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mtomuhle Khawula, said Magesh will be remembered for his much-loved tunes, such as “Number One Tsotsi”.’

“Before going solo, he was a member and co-founder of much the celebrated music outfit, the award-winning TKZee, which kept South Africa on its feet and dancing in the early 2000s. The IFP honours this fallen hero and music legend. Our music industry is much poorer without the voice and the rhymes of this son of the soil, particularly as South Africa is still reeling from the recent loss of hip-hop sensation, Riky Rick,” said Khawula.
He added that may Magesh rest in peace, saying that their thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones.
In a social media statement, the former club of Tshabalala’s father, Stanley ‘Screamer’ Tshabalala, Orlando Pirates said the club is saddened by the news of the passing of Stanley’s son.
“Tokollo, who also goes by the name of Magesh, was a renowned musician, famously known for his songwriting and being a member of the group TKZee. We convey our heartfelt and deepest sympathy to the Tshabalala family and pledge our profound moral support,” read the statement.
