Duma seeks partnerships with faith-based organisations

MEC for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs, Siboniso Duma said they want economic prosperity for all.

The ANC government said it has agreed to start a partnership between church leaders, the congregation, and the government.

This was revealed by the new MEC for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs, Siboniso Duma, when he visited the Twelve Apostles Church in Izingolweni on Sunday.

Duma said partnership and active participation are the only tools they can use to make substantial progress toward addressing the socio-economic challenges they are facing.

He added that they want economic prosperity for all.

“We want all entities under my department to be used as instruments to alleviate poverty, create job opportunities, and a better life for the marginalised. People in rural areas and townships must not be left behind. We have agreed to work together with the church. In my capacity as the leader of government business, we will ensure that we have an integrated approach involving all government departments behind one economic plan. We must rebuild our economy and ensure that ordinary people have an equal share,” said Duma.

The MEC added that there is a role for the ruling party to lead the government and the role for the legislature to hold the executive to account.

Duma said they want religious leaders and worshippers, who are from communities, to make a meaningful contribution toward building a winning province.

The MEC said his visit to the Twelve Apostles Church at Msheshwe Sports Ground Izingolweni was part of KwaZulu-Natal government’s efforts to strengthen ties with faith-based organisations.

Also, the newly elected Premier, Nomusa Dube-Ncube also visited the Twelve Apostles Church in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday.
