Beneficiaries of lapsed grants urged to visit Sassa offices

If you did not get your grant this month visit a SASSA office

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) is calling on social grant beneficiaries who did not get paid as a result of their grants lapsing, to visit their local Sassa office to have their grants reviewed.

The agency has identified that 78 811 social grants needed to be reviewed in January this year.

Sandy Godlwana, Sassa spokesperson said after this was discovered all affected beneficiaries were notified and requested to present themselves for a review in line with the Social Assistance Act of 2004 regulations.

“As of July, 38 622 beneficiaries did not heed the call to provide the requested information and documentation, thus compelling the agency to suspend payments of their grants on 30 July.

“Sassa KZN is again urging those who have been affected to visit local offices with the required documents; ID of beneficiary, birth certificates of children for child support grants, three months bank statement of both the beneficiary and spouse if married and proof of residence, she said.

Godlwana said those who get disability and care dependency grants are requested to undergo a medical assessment.

“Those receiving foster care grants will need a court order confirming that they are the rightful guardians, “she added

The agency said after submitting all these required documents, within 30 days of suspension of the grant, SASSA will restore grants from the date of which it was suspended.
