'The event will create jobs and attract tourism to the region.'

The chief executive officer (CEO) of South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise (SCTIE), Phelisa Mangcu, said the Ugu Maskandi Festival positions the South Coast as a key events destination.

Mangcu said this in a statement on Tuesday, adding that the event will create jobs and attract tourism to the region.

The Ugu Maskandi Festival will take place on October 1 at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre from 10am.

The festival is set to feature some of the best acts from across the country such as Ntencane, Big Zulu, Khuzani, and the legendary Phuzekhemisi who will be supported by Duncan, Zakwe, and many more.

Mangcu said: “It is wonderful that the inaugural event was so well received and that the South Coast is able to host the second Maskandi Music Festival. This not only celebrates the local talent and culture of the Paradise of the Zulu Kingdom, but it also positions the South Coast as a key events destination, creating jobs and attracting tourism to the region. We are excited to welcome these incredible artists and the many fans of maskandi to the KZN South Coast.”

Meanwhile, Siyabonga Mkhungo – director of Ugu Broadcasting Services, said the Ugu Maskandi Festival, is being organised by Ugu

Broadcasting Services in partnership with Umuziwabantu and Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality.

Mkhungo said they are excited to be hosting the festival which they believe is on the right track to becoming a household event in the Ugu District.

He said they started the festival to embrace their culture and heritage as Nguni people through art and crafts.

“When we hold events of this nature and magnitude, we always strive to ensure local communities benefit most through the temporal job opportunities that will be made available. This extends to local businesses whose services we hire and supplies we rely on. The event will also cater to local South Coast artists that are joining the day’s line-up. The event is open to everyone over the age of 16 years,” said Mkhungo.
