Court convicts man for unlicensed firearm

Shazi was arrested in August 2021 during a joint operation by Port Shepstone based Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit, Tactical Response Team and Public Order Police at Emahlabathini area in KwaNyuswa.

After being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, Sandile Shazi was convicted and sentenced to five years imprisonment or a fine of R20 000.

According to Hawks spokesperson, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo, the Ezinqoleni Regional Court convicted and sentenced Shazi.

Mhongo said Shazi was arrested in August 2021 during a joint operation by Port Shepstone based Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit, Tactical Response Team and Public Order Police at Emahlabathini area in KwaNyuswa.

“He appeared in court several times until he was convicted and sentenced. Shazi was further sentenced to two years imprisonment or a fine of R8000 for possession of ammunition,” said Mhlongo.
