Warning against opening false cases

The accused made the police believe that she was kidnapped, robbed, and raped last week.

Port Shepstone police warns the public against opening false cases.

Police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge said the warning comes after a 41-year-old woman from Margate was charged with defeating the ends of justice and perjury after she made the police believe that she was kidnapped, robbed, and raped recently.

Mpinge said the police immediately opened a case and began investigating but they later found the events to be untrue.

He added that the woman will appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court this week.

“The public is warned against opening false cases even for insurance purposes, as this takes away police resources and valuable time from serious cases. Persons found guilty of opening false cases will face prosecution and have a criminal record,” said Mpinge.
