Matrics wished well in final exams
The DA says it will monitor the possible impact of loadshedding and other factors on the marking of scripts and ultimately the announcement of results.
The KZN MEC for Education, Mbali Frazer wished all matric candidates success in their National Senior Certificate examinations which started on Monday this week.
Frazer said the matriculants started with one of their biggest two-hour papers, English Home Language Paper 1 of which a total of 180 581 candidates will be writing, 174 420 full-time and 6 151 part-time.
She urged all examination centre managers to allow candidates to write their examination papers, even if they do not yet have their identity documents from the Department of Home Affairs.
Frazer said all the candidates are required to submit a certified copy of their IDs within six months after the examinations.
Political party leaders also sent their well wishes.
IFP national spokesperson, Mkhuleko Hlengwa reminds learners that nothing worthwhile is ever easy, and that time invested in studying will bear fruit.
“Success in exams is built on consistent hard work and effort. During this often-stressful time, we would also like to call on parents and guardians to support their children,” added Hlengwa.
He also thanks educators and support staff who have worked tirelessly over the past year to prepare learners for these exams.
“We also thank in advance all those who will be providing support during the exams in venues across the country,” Hlengwa concluded.
The DA said it anticipates positive outcomes in the announcement of results on January 19, 2023 and that Department of Basic Education (DBE) can report on how many learners are in universities, pursuing work opportunities or upgrading from the previous cohort.
DA Shadow Minister of Basic Education, Baxolile Ndoda said that the DA will be monitoring the examination, marking and verification processes, as always, keeping a close eye on the true pass rate.
“With 3.8 million youth not in education, employment or skills training, the country cannot allow a single learner to slip through the cracks. We believe that every young learner deserves to have their hard work rewarded with a stable and growing economy that will allow them to pursue their dreams,” Ndoda added.
Matric examinations will continue until December 7.
