Crime continues to plague Port Shepstone
Criminals have devised yet another way to rob unsuspecting persons after they pass out from consuming these cold drinks.
Residents now fear going to the Port Shepstone CBD because of the crime that is plaguing the town.
Crimes that happen in Port Shepstone include being stabbed, robbed of belongings and being drugged.
Port Shepstone police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge, recently issued a warning saying that the public must not accept cold drinks from anyone on the street while waiting in queues in the Port Shepstone CBD.
Mpinge said criminals have devised yet another way to rob unsuspecting persons after they pass out from consuming these cold drinks.
“Please be aware of your surroundings at all times and do not accept any help from strangers. It is recommended that older persons be accompanied by a reliable family member if they need to come to town. Do not wear jewellery. Keep your phone concealed and wear your handbag across your chest,” said Mpinge.
Meanwhile, after the Port Shepstone Taxi Rank moved to the Bus Rank, people now fear shopping in Port Shepstone even more.
Sithembile Shazi told Fever that the Taxi Rank was dangerous but the bus rank is even more dangerous.
“We do not need crime statistics from the police on what is happening in Port Shepstone because we see it everyday. The young and old being robbed and when they refuse to let go of their belongings, they are stabbed or strangled and it is worrying. I think twice before going to the CBD because I fear for my life. What is more worrying is that most of the essential and affordable things are found in Port Shepstone,” said Shazi.
Meanwhile, a Gamalakhe family recently took to Facebook to look for their father who was allegedly kidnapped in Port Shepstone.
Although the father has returned home safe and sound, the family said he was robbed of all his belongings from someone who pretended to be looking for help.
The family said an unknown man approached their father asking him to speak to his boss in English over the phone, saying that the he could not understand his boss and needed him to translate.
The family said their father was found three days later in a bush near Paddock with all his belongings gone.
