Man arrested for unlicensed firearm

Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo, said their members received information about an unlicensed firearm in Shayamoya.

Hawks members from Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime Investigation working together with the National Intervention Unit, K9 Unit, Crime Intelligence and Public Order Police arrested a 39-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm in the Shayamoya area on Monday last week.

Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo, said their members received information about the man who was in possession of the unlicensed weapon.

A joint operation was conducted and police searched his residence where a 9mm pistol was found under a pillow.

“The man was arrested and charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm. He is expected to appear in the Kokstad Magistrate’s Court soon. The KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation provincial head, Major General (Dr) Lesetja Senona welcomed the arrest and commended the members for their good work,” said Mhlongo.
