The gang that hit a shop in Hibberdene was from Diepsloot, Gauteng.

Cellphone thieves who robbed a shop in Hibberdene were stopped in their tracks.

Hendrik Ludick of Airtrack X-Treme Security said they were activated to track and recover a large number of cellphones stolen from the Hibberdene store.

Ludick said 101 Recovery Team Delta was mobilised, and Port Shepstone Saps K9 Unit’s Warrant Officers Willow Le Roux and Des Theunisen joined in to locate the stolen items.

They successfully tracked and recovered 222 cellphones, a laptop, five tablets and various cellphone accessories.

“Cellular signal was tracked travelling from the scene of the crime to a residence in Southport. Two suspects managed to escape from the team, but a third person was handed over to the police for further investigation,” he said.

Ludick said the gang was from Diepsloot, Gauteng and various housebreaking items (grinders, rope ladder, bolt cutters) were found on the premises in Southport.

Ugu District Corporate Communication confirmed the incident and said the vehicle allegedly used in the burglary was impounded and investigations are continuing.
