Drama at sea keeps emergency services busy
A wave broadsided a boat causing it to capsize.
A capsized boat and a false alarm made last weekend a busy one for emergency services.
Glen Preston of Med-Evac said medics responded to help three people who had been thrown off a boat when it capsized off Oslo Beach last Saturday.
“The group had been freediving off a reef but were back on the boat when a wave broadsided it, causing it to capsize,” he said.
Preston said one person had a slight concussion; otherwise, there were no injuries.
The following day, a concerned member of the public saw a boat about two kilometres off San Lameer – and from that distance, it looked like it had capsized.
Preston and the team from NSRI Station 20 Shelly Beach launched a rescue boat, and upon arrival, the crew could see the boat was not in any difficulty.
“The call ended up being a false alarm, with good intent,” said Preston.
