Reading with meaning promoted at workshop
It wasn't only about reading in English, but in other languages as well.
Reading to Learn SA, together with We Love Reading Sithanda Ukufunda, has done it again, and for a good cause.
Working with the Literacy Association of South Africa (Litasa), they held a successful workshop at the Anglican Church in Margate on Monday.
Meg Dickson, the director and founder of Reading to Learn SA, said this workshop was a follow-up on one held in Margate in February this year.
She said the aim was to ensure teachers are reading with meaning and passing on their knowledge to learners.
Meg explained that educators attended from various areas in the region, with most coming from working in rural schools.
The workshop was open to anyone teaching grades one to seven, free of charge.
By all accounts, the workshop was a wonderful success, with teachers enjoying the time together with the focus on reading with meaning.
It wasn’t only about reading in English but in other languages as well.
Meg said the organisation, which has a library at CFC Ministries, had been going for a decade, and she could see how learners benefited from the programmes and work put in.
