Stolen vehicle found ablaze
Thieves had tried to hotwire the vehicle which caused it to catch fire.
While on patrol, a security officer received a call for assistance on a local WhatsApp community group about a fire along Umhlangankulu Drive in Southport.
Derrick Mpisane, a Lazer 911 Reaction Unit officer, responded during the early hours of last Friday at about 03:45.
Robbie Pypers, Lazer 911’s senior area manager, said the fire department and Saps were immediately informed.
“Once the fire department and Saps were on site, Mpisane handed the scene over to them, and continued with his patrols. While patrolling Umhlangankulu Drive, he noticed two frantic residents on the road. They informed him that their vehicle had been stolen,” said Pypers.
Mpisane informed them of a burning vehicle and escorted them to the scene. The residents confirmed that it was their vehicle.
Pypers said reports received was that thieves had tried to hotwire the vehicle, which caused it to catch fire.
