South Coast Strider Brino Chidzungu (43) has added another feather in his running cap, winning the Goss & Balfe Sapphire Coast Marathon in Amanzimtoti last week Sunday.
Thousands of runners enjoyed the scenic route, which showcased the best of Amanzimtoti, but arguably none as much as Brino.
It attracted 1 742 runners and also served as a Comrades Marathon qualifier.
Brino took the 42.2km title in a time of 02:29:14. Next was Nkosinathi Duma (37) from Faku Chiefs AC in a time of 02:31:28. Third place went to Mhlengi Khowane (35) from Dolphin Coast Striders in 02:36:38.
Lisa Collett (DHS Old Boys) won the ladies’ division in 03:22:32.
When it came to the 21.1km race, winners were Lindokuhle Zakhele (Lovemore Brothers AC) in 01:10:32 and Nokuthula Ntshangase (Black Diamond) in 01:31:47.
The 10km races were won by Brian Ontieri (Lovemore Brothers AC) in 00:32:33 and Busisiwe Chamane (Black Diamond) in 00:37:35.
The race was hosted by Amanzimtoti Athletics Club.
Lynette Botha of the club thanked sponsors (Suzuki Amanzimtoti and Hansa Safety Services), runners, the local municipality and club members for their support.
