Vikings’ Sukkels sets cricket season alight
Cricket is alive and well with 18 teams taking part in the Summer League.
Rain and runs have dominated the Southern KZN T20 cricket league so far this season. Summer precipitation is no surprise in this area, and cricketers are hoping there are enough sunny days to get in some decent play.
Talk of the season so far has been the performance of the Vikings, sponsored by Henn’s Arms. They have amassed some major runs, many coming off the bat of Marko Sukkels, who has scored a double hundred and a hundred so far. The team should win Division 2 running away, and it will be interesting to see how they fare in Division 1.
Despite the rain, one game was played in Division 1 last weekend. Legends beat the Ballies by seven wickets, earning one bonus point. Ballies were reduced to 75-9 in 16.3 overs, with Legends knocking off the runs with seven wickets to spare.
Points were shared in the other three games, between Bombay and PE Dolphins, Spartans and Sheppie Lions, Sezela and Knockouts. No fixtures were scheduled for Division 2.
Coming up this Sunday, there is only one fixture in Division 1, where PSCC play Sheppie Lions at Port Shepstone CC at 14:00.
In Division 2, there are four fixtures, namely Vikings vs Wolf Pack at Suid-Natal High at 09:00, Gamalakhe vs Legends B at Suid-Natal High at 13:30, Crusaders vs Izingolweni at PS borough grounds at 09:00 and Super Giants vs Mustangs at PS borough grounds at 13:30.
