Musical duo to set stage alight
This will be a sonic experience in a tranquil, park-like setting on the edge of the river.
Acoustic guitar wizard Steve Newman and gifted percussionist Ashish Joshi are touring KZN with a performance at the Umtamvuna River Lodge, Port Edward, on Sunday, November 24 at 14:00.
This will be a sonic experience in a tranquil, park-like setting on the edge of the river.
Newman has accumulated six decades of performing in venues and collaborating with artists from around the world, producing original and unique music.
He has woven magic in solo outings with Road Warrior and fellow axe-man Tony Cox (now UK-based), in the acclaimed band Tananas, anchored by the late Mozambiquan bassist Gito Baloi and drummer extraordinaire Ian Herman (now USA-based) – and in the Aquarian Quartet string-instrument formation with the late Syd Kitchen, and fellow troubadours Greg Giorgiades and Tony Cox.
Recent tours with percussion and tabla ace Nish Pillay have explored new territory, musically and geographically.
South African-bred but globally influenced, Joshi has often joined Newman on stage, either as a duo or as part of extended ensembles. He adds a deft and nimble touch to mesmerising performances.
The under-cover venue offers weather protection, so save the date, come rain or shine.
