Safety forum is back on duty
Deputy secretary of Santaco in Ugu, Khangelani Caluza, who is also the chairperson of the committee said the forum came back to continue to protect people.
People in Port Shepstone CBD were whistling, hooting and ululating on the return of the Ugu Clean Up Committee (Port Shepstone Forum) a week ago.
A few weeks before that, the forum had stopped working in town and people had been complaining that the ‘paras’ were back. The committee decided on its reinstatement to protect Sheppie.
Also, residents from various areas had gathered in the CBD and protested for the forum’s return for the community’s safety.
The forum was initiated by the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) in 2022 after the CBD was overrun with criminal elements, leaving shoppers and businesses vulnerable.
Deputy secretary of Santaco in Ugu, Khangelani Caluza, who is also the chairperson of the committee, said the forum came back to continue to protect people.
“We are operating like before; however, we need more donations to keep going. We only back because our commuters have been struggling and begging us to do so.”
Caluza said they will only operate in Sheppie CBD and at Oribi Plaza.
