Ugu is festive season ready
Ugu spokesperson France Zama said that a peak season preparedness plan has been adopted to deliver water and sanitation services.
Ugu District is ready to welcome visitors as all necessary measures are in place to ensure that water and sanitation services are available during the festive season and beyond.
In a statement, the municipality said more efforts have been placed on the provision of adequate resources towards water supply throughout the district.
These include making available human resources, water tankers, service delivery vehicles and disaster management services to swiftly respond to any emergencies that may arise.
Ugu spokesperson France Zama said that a peak season preparedness plan has been adopted to deliver water and sanitation services.
“In preparation for this season, extensive planned maintenance work has been conducted on the major water supply systems across the district in order to ensure that all systems are able to deal with the demand. Water supply systems are currently in a healthy condition in most areas across the district while we continue working on routine maintenance in certain sections of our communities.”
Zama also added that the Margate sewer infrastructure system, which was damaged by torrential rains, has been repaired.
Margate Beach is now open to the public for recreational activities. All beaches will be monitored for compliance in accordance with South African water quality standards for marine water.
Environmental health practitioners will be on high alert during this period; tests will be conducted twice weekly to ensure the safety of bathers on all beaches.
