Rotary helps solves water crisis at primary school

Mhlabalungile Primary School in Gcilima has faced ongoing water shortages for several years despite efforts to harvest rainwater with the installation of three 5000-litre water tanks.
A fourth tank was later added but never connected to a gutter system. Unfortunately, over time, the system deteriorated, and the school lacked funds for repairs.
The Rotary Club of Hibiscus Coast, already active in the area through its Rotary Community Centre, noticed the issue while conducting sewing classes and other activities at the school. Determined to help, the club sought assistance from local businesses on the South Coast.
Gutterman in Margate was the first business approached, and owner Alan Robertson quickly stepped in, offering to donate both the materials and labour needed to restore the system. Thanks to their generous contribution, all four tanks are now fully connected to gutters, efficiently capturing rainwater.
“This will greatly assist the school in essential activities, including washing, cooking, health, and sanitation,” said Rotary Club President Mike Macrae.
The Rotary Club of Hibiscus Coast, along with the staff and learners of Mhlabalungile Primary, extended heartfelt thanks to Gutterman and its team for their invaluable support.
