Umzumbe launches half marathon

The winner will walk away with R10 000.

The Mfundo Arnold Lushaba Half Marathon was officially launched by Umzumbe Municipality at the Protea Hotel Karridene Beach, near Umgababa, last Friday.

The race will be held on Sunday, February 23, at the Esibanini Sportsground from 06:00.

Entries are open for the marathon, which will be held in collaboration with the KZN Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, KZN Athletics, KZN Sports Confederation, Umzumbe Sports Confederation and Umzumbe Youth Council.

The mayor of Umzumbe Municipality, Bongani Nyuswa, said the marathon is open to all athletes.

He said it has grown annually, saying that the winner in this year’s edition will walk away with R10 000.

“It is our wish to see this race continue to grow. We are anticipating more than 500 athletes to compete for gold,” said Nyuswa.
