Peter powers to Scottburgh Half Marathon success

The local club has started the season in style.

Peter Brino Chidzungu won the Scottburgh 21km Half Marathon last weekend, confirming his status as one of the region’s premier runners.
He was also first in the 40-49 age group (obviously) but showed that despite his late start to competitive running, he can compete with those much younger than him.
In the main race, he finished 44 seconds ahead of Lindokuhle Zakhele Chiliza.
There were some other highlights, too, with Lennox Mtengwane second in 60+ category.
Victoria Forshaw ran a personal best, as did Ziyanda Adonis, both in the 21km race.
Ziyanda was named as the club’s 2024 female athlete of the year.
For the men, this honour went to Samuel Naidoo, who also ran a personal best at Scottburgh.
Striders was represented by two runners in the 10km race, namely Andrew Spence and Vuyokani Mbhele.
Andrew, now 79, has been something of a shorter distance specialist with great success.
Anyone wanting to join Striders can contact chairman Adeline Jacobs on 083 2366377.
