Club to develop boxing in Gamalakhe

Ncedisile Zide said the club was looking for people who would start boxing clubs in municipalities such as Umuziwabantu, Umzumbe and Umdoni so that they can develop the boxing at a regional level.

The newly established Gamalakhe Boxing Club is looking for trainers and members.

The founder of the club, Ncedisile Zide, said he started the movement to develop the sport in rural communities.

Located in Esigedleni under Ward 28 in Gamalakhe, the club currently trains children under the age of 17.

He explained that his love for boxing started in high school.

“My father used to take us to watch boxing matches on weekends. As there were no boxing clubs around, I never got a chance to box. When I was in high school, I joined a karate group. In 2013, I moved to Cape Town to study, and I continued with karate. In 2014, my love for boxing was revived because I joined a boxing gym at school, so it was not difficult for me to learn the basics. I went as far as representing my school in a boxing tournament in the USA in 2014,” he said.

He added that he started the club to develop boxing in Gamalakhe and the Ugu District Municipality.

Zide said he is looking for people who will start boxing clubs in municipalities such as Umuziwabantu, Umzumbe and Umdoni so that they can develop the sport at a regional level.
