Top matric achievers rewarded
The top three schools in Umzumbe are Mgamule High, Siyakhula Secondary and Mqhakama High.
Umzumbe Municipality and the Ugu Department of Education celebrated top matric achievers and schools in Ward 7 last Thursday.
The municipality’s chief whip, Sibongiseni Cele, said that all the schools under the municipality did well.
“The results speak for themselves; working hard and with dedication does pay off. We thank parents and teachers for helping to build a great future for the learners. We know that there have been challenges throughout the journey, but we want to say that we see the effort.”
The top three schools in Umzumbe are Mgamule High, Siyakhula Secondary and Mqhakama High.
The top 10 learners were rewarded for their excellent results.
Tonia Dwayisa from Khathi High received R10 000, Slindokuhle Nyawose of Luthuli High – R8000, Unako Mbhele of Mtwalume High – R7000, Iviwe Mhlanga from Mtwalume High – R6000 and Samkeliso Shezi from Bhekameva High – R5000
Khwela Amahle and Langelihle Madlala, both of Buhlebethu High, Lungelo Hlongwana of Luthuli High, Maluleka Uyanda of Bhekameva High and Siphesihle Mncibi of Mqhakama High received R3000 each.
Cele said that it is now up to the achievers when they get to university. “When you get to university, don’t forget where you come from because that will remind you why you are there.”
