The trio were sentenced in the Ezinqoleni Regional Court for business robbery.

Residents of Gamalakhe can sleep a little easier now that three criminals who have previous convictions and pending cases have been taken off the streets.

A tuck shop in Tintown, Gamalakhe, was robbed by three men on the evening of April 19, 2024.

One pointed a firearm at the owner, while the others grabbed property before they fled the scene.

Investigations by Saps Gamalakhe Detective Service led to the arrest of the trio in the area shortly after the robbery.

After several court appearances, they were sentenced in the Ezinqoleni Regional Court for business robbery last month.

Velile Ndovela (24) was sentenced to 10 years, Timothy Smith (24) received 15 years, and Mlungisi Tenza (20) will serve six years.

The investigating officer in the case was Detective Sergeant Mlungisi Jabe of Gamalakhe Detective Service.
