Speaker takes legislature to learners
Nontembeko Boyce stressed the the importance of career guidance especially to the class of 2025.
The speaker of the KZN Legislature, Nontembeko Boyce, visited Ezinqoleni Secondary School in Izingolweni on Monday last week.
Boyce, who hails from the South Coast, said the visit was part of the legislature’s civic education programme.
She said the programme included teaching learners about the work of the legislature and also to encourage and motivate them to do well in their studies.
She explained that Ezinqoleni Secondary was built in 1995 and connects several communities.
“It is important for us as the legislature to visit our schools, such as Ezinqoleni Secondary, as part of civic education. What is more encouraging is that even though the school has a high enrolment rate, they were able to get a 95,8 % pass rate in the 2024 National Senior Certificate exams,” she said.
During the programme, Boyce threw general knowledge questions on South Africa and the KZN province to learners from all grades.
A Grade 12 learner, Owethu Nxumalo, won a laptop after successfully answering the quiz by the speaker.
Nxumalo said she was grateful for the speaker’s visit, saying that the laptop would come in handy when she goes to university next year.
Meanwhile, Boyce stressed the importance of career guidance, especially to the class of 2025.
She said as the legislature, they plan to return to Izingolweni in September to host all the high schools in area and surroundings for a similar programme.
