ANC appoints locals to provincial task team
ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula said the ANC task teams are expected to match the MK party’s growing influence with a more effective political strategy.
Seven South Coasters were appointed to the ANC KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Task Team (PTT) when the party reconfigured its structure on Tuesday last week.
Local ANC members Ravi Pillay, Zama Khanyase, Londolo Zungu, Inkosi Mxolisi Xolo, Sibongile Khathi, Nontembeko Boyce and Siyabonga Kotini Nene were named additional members of the PTT.
This came after the ANC KZN Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) was disbanded for its dismal performance in the May 2024 elections.
ANC secretary general Fikile Mbalula led a delegation to Durban on Tuesday to announce the reconfigured leadership, which consists of provincial convenor Jeff Radebe, first deputy convenor Weziwe Thusi, second deputy convenor Siboniso Duma, provincial coordinator Mike Mabuyakhulu, deputy coordinator Nomusa Dube-Ncube and provincial fundraiser Nomagugu Simelane.
Also, it seems the ANC regional executive committees have been disbanded.
For the Tolomane Mnyayiza Region, Mbalula announced that the former KZN MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development Super Zuma was appointed as the Regional Task Team (RTT) convenor along with Minah Lesoma, Khonza Ngidi, Thandeka Madangana, and Fikile Masiko as RTT members.
In a virtual media briefing, Mbalula said the newly appointed task teams have a ‘mammoth task’ ahead of them.
He said the decision to restructure the leadership was finalised during a recent ANC national working committee meeting.
He explained that the move was part of a broader strategy to rebuild support ahead of the 2026 local government elections.
Mbalula said the ANC task teams are expected to match the MK party’s growing influence with a more effective political strategy.
“We are fighting a Ferrari with a Conquest; we need to match a Ferrari with a flying machine that moves faster in seconds,” said Mbalula.
He added that the task team will begin implementing its mandate on Monday, March 3, with the first six months being critical to the ANC’s rebuilding efforts.
The secretary general commended the party’s structures for their discipline in accepting leadership decisions on the reconfiguration of the province.
