South Coast Warriors take Coastal Community Cup
Gamalakhe Black Bulls Rugby Club lost in the finals.
The Coastal Community Cup went to the South Coast Warriors (first team) during the Southern KwaZulu-Natal Rugby Union’s tournament held at Douglas Mitchell Sports Grounds in Uvongo last Saturday.
In the finals, the Gamalakhe Black Bulls Rugby Club lost to South Coast Warriors (10-0).
Speaking on the loss, Black Bulls coach Lethu Sicebi said they showcased their defensive prowess by conceding only two tries in four matches.
“We had an incredible tournament, making it to the finals against the South Coast Warriors. Our journey started with a significant victory over Amangcesha, where we won 21-0. This match was important as it highlighted the historic rivalry between the two oldest black rugby clubs on the South Coast. We continued our strong performance by defeating the Esayidi Eagles (19-0). In the finals, we faced the South Coast Warriors’ first team and fought valiantly, but fell short, losing 10-0,” he said.
Scebi added that they are proud of how well the team jelled and executed the game plan.
Meanwhile, South Coast Warriors coach Niko Potgieter was impressed with the way his team played against the Gamalakhe Black Bulls Rugby Club.
“When we saw that they have tall players, we decided to go back to our structures to see if we can’t beat them in an open game. We got a try, a three-point penalty, and that is when we got back to our game plan,” said Potgieter.
