Mediator educates at business breakfast

Representatives from Just in Time Mediators and the Office of the Tax Ombud made informative presentations at Port Shepstone Business Forum’s breakfast get together at Umdlalo Lodge in Umtentweni last week.
Just in Time Mediators advocates for peace and an amicable solution in disputes between two parties.

It is an accredited company associated with the KwaZulu-Natal Society of Mediators.
According to director Piere Visagie, the most important is that their service is free.

“We, as mediators, have a challenge, and that is why we want to talk to people like you. Most of you have clauses in your contracts that say if a dispute arises between two parties, it will be dealt with in arbitration,” he said.
He said their job is to listen to both sides of the involved parties and to mediate an outcome.

Meanwhile, operational specialist at the Office of the Tax Ombud, Katlego Rasebotsa, said they help with tax complaints free of charge.

She encouraged business owners not to avoid SARS if they find themselves in a situation where they owe money.
“I want to emphasise that we are not SARS. Don’t be afraid to come to us,” she said.

“We are impartial, and we make independent decisions. Our specialists are knowledgeable about the Tax Act, know the processes of SARS, and we also have access to the system,” she said.
