Ugu District Municipality has identified that an email with the subject line URGENT was sent from a municipal email account that had been compromised by an unauthorised third party.

If you received this email, please:

– Do not click any links contained in the message.

– Do not enter any usernames, passwords, banking details or other personal information.

– Delete the email from your mailbox and deleted items folder.

– If you clicked the link or entered any information, contact your IT support team immediately and change your password as a precaution.

The affected account has been secured and the incident has been contained.

At this stage there is no indication that recipient systems were compromised as a result of receiving the email; however, recipients are encouraged to remain vigilant and take the precautions above.
