New youth league leadership calls for inclusion

The newly-elected ANCYL Tolomane Mnyayiza Regional leadership said youth managers in all four municipalities and the district, must be under the age of 35.

The newly-elected ANCYL in the Tolomane Mnyayiza Region calls on its chairperson to name a mayoral candidate for one of the local municipalities in the Ugu District in the upcoming local government elections.

This was one of the resolutions the new leadership took during the eighth ANCYL Tolomane Mnyayiza regional elective conference held in Scottburgh last week.

The leadership team is: Zwelethu Jeza – regional chairperson, Sindy Khabane – deputy chairperson, Sanele Gumede – secretary, Vikizitha Ngcobo – deputy secretary, and Simbongile Ntaka – treasurer.
Gumede said they are unapologetic about their resolutions.

He said the resolutions also included that young people aged under 35 should be represented in all municipal troikas.

“All four local municipalities and the district must declare and advertise all vacant posts. Entry-level posts must not require experience, and the youth aged under 35 must be prioritised. Every Monday, the ANCYL branches must submit their programmes for the week ahead while reporting on the work they would have done during the week.

There must be an effort to engage with the youth of all sectors, including the minority groups so that we carry out the task of championing the interests of all young people,” he said.

Gumede added that youth managers in all four municipalities and the district must be under the age of 35.
He said a university should be built in the region for access to higher learning.

“This should be supported with provision of bursaries by our municipalities and private companies operating in our municipalities. Also, the young must swell the ranks of the ANC; they must be members and delegates at all congresses. In the coming regional congress of the ANC, we want at least one official who is under the age of 35 and further representation on the executive committee. This, together with all resolutions emanating from commissions of the conference, will be our guide in the process of rebuilding the ANCYL in the Tolomane Mnyayiza Region,” he said.

Meanwhile, the ANC Tolomane Mnyayiza Regional spokesperson, Xolani Luthuli, called on the newly elected leadership to unite the ANCYL in the region to serve all young people, irrespective of their views prior to the regional congress.

“The ANC commends the delegates of the youth league for their discipline and unwavering commitment to strengthening the structure as a fearless and progressive voice for young people. The ANC pledges its full support to this new leadership collective, urging them to work closely with ANC structures, alliance partners, and other progressive youth formations to advance the struggle for a better future for all young people,” said Luthuli.
