Speaker spreads kindness

The speaker of the KZN Legislature, Nontembeko Boyce, spent Human Rights Day with residents of the Word of God Care Centre in Betania.

Boyce was accompanied by the mayor of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, Zodwa Mzindle, and the chairperson of the Ugu Disability Forum, Sindi Cebisa.

The speaker said it was important for the legislature to visit the centre on Human Rights Day.

Boyce donated cleaning materials, blankets and adult nappies.

She said caregivers work tirelessly looking after the elderly and the disabled.

“We appreciate the work done by these caregivers who ensure that the people at the centre get the dignity they deserve in society. By visiting the Word of God this Human Rights Day, we wanted to donate cleaning supplies and thank the staff for their dedication, and we hope that the centre will receive more donations to ensure that they continue with the work they do,” said Boyce.

Word of God Care Centre houses elderly and disabled people to ensure that their health issues are addressed.

The primary caregivers are informed about ageing and ways to provide individualised care and support for senior citizens.

The founder of the Word of God, Thandazile Nzama, thanked Boyce for the donation and the support over the years.

“The caregivers are trained on psychosocial issues and interventions for the institutionalised elderly,” she said.

Meanwhile, Boyce also visited the Siyaphambili Crèche in Ward 3 under Masinenge.

This was part of her constituency initiative, where she donated school shoes and bags to learners.
