Students’ congress reclaims Gamalakhe Campus
The newly elected Esayidi TVET College Gamalakhe SRC secretary, Andiswa Madiya, said they want to address the issue of part-time students not having lecturers.
The South African Students Congress (SASCO) reclaimed the Esayidi TVET College Gamalakhe Campus during the Student Representative Council (SRC) elections recently after losing it three years ago.
The leaders are Sandile Mchunu – chairperson, Asanda Giba – deputy chairperson, Andiswa Madiya – secretary, Lindumusa Makhoba – deputy secretary, Ntokozo Qumbisa -treasurer, Zama Mkhize – academics portfolio, Sibusiso Gumede – sports and entertainment, and Noluthando Libotho Isabella Zondi was deployed to the Central Campus in Oslo Beach.
Speaking to Fever, the newly elected secretary said the plan is to tackle the issue of textbooks not getting to students on time.
Madiya said they also want to address the problem of part-time students not having lecturers.
She said they also plan to ensure that information gets to students on time and to work with other student leaders, among other things.
“We extend our gratitude to the comrades, organisations, and individuals whose support, resources, and efforts made our victory possible. Your commitment to the cause and the future of our students ensured that SASCO triumphed. This victory is a testament to the strength of unity and the power of dedicated comrades who believe in the transformative potential of student leadership,” she said.
She added: “To the students who voted for SASCO – thank you. Your votes signify your belief in the power of unity and the importance of a movement that fights for students’ rights, transformation, and the future of our education system. As we move forward, we promise to remain steadfast in our commitment to the students.”
Madiya said SASCO appreciates the efforts of ANC members such as Matho Shozi, Mzwandile Mkwanazi, Ntokozo Ngcobo, Nosipho Mkhize, Siseko Nkonzo and Sbo Zungu.
“Your collective efforts demonstrate a commitment to the growth and prosperity of students at the Gamalakhe Campus. Together, we have shown that the power of solidarity and action can overcome any challenges. This victory is not just for us but for the students we serve and represent,” said Madiya.
