Flood victims receive house
The community has started donating blocks to the family to eventually build a solid house.
The recent floods have left many families destitute, especially in the rural areas.
The Blose family of five in Izingolweni was hit hard after their one-room house built of corrugated iron was damaged.
Ward 31 councillor Malusi Tsaulwayo said it was heartbreaking to see the family living under these conditions.
“On meeting with them, we escalated the matter to the disaster centre, which then notified the province. With the help of the Department of Transport and Human Settlements, we were able to get them a temporary structure.”
Tsaulwayo said the community has started donating blocks to the family so that they can eventually build a solid house.
“We are grateful to the community and encourage that we help each other to find a solution while we wait for help from the government.”
Also, he said that his ward is not on the list to receive RDP houses.
The new structure was handed to the family on Tuesday this week, along with furniture, food, and blankets.
Philisiwe Blose said she is grateful for the house, and she appreciates everyone in her community, the councillor, ward committees and caregivers.
She lives with her three children and her granddaughter.
“I cannot build a house because I don’t work, and we survive on the children’s grant money.”
A neighbour, Theresa Cele, said that when Bloses arrived in the area, they noticed that the family was struggling.
“I am so happy for her. We appreciate the help given to her; she will no longer suffer and will now see the rain through the windows and not worry about how they will sleep.”
