Workers finally hand memorandum to RNM

For a few weeks, the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) members in Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) have been trying to submit a memorandum to the municipality but have been unable to do so.
In March, the workers had planned to march peacefully to RNM but postponed due to logistics.
At the beginning of April, they again marched to the main offices, but no one from the municipal leadership was present to accept their memorandum, and they returned to work.
On Monday morning this week, the workers went to the Port Shepstone Civic Centre, where the IDP road show was being held and where the municipal leadership was present.
The speaker, Phumlani Gumbi, along with chief whip Teddy Hlophe, accepted the memo outside the civic centre from SAWMU’s secretary in RNM, Sthembiso Chili.
Also, SAMWU informed them that a response was required within seven days.
Gumbi added the memorandum will be discussed and that due procedures and processes will be followed.
