Young people gather to clean Gamalakhe pool
The clean-up campaign included landscaping and cutting of grass.
In celebration of Freedom Day, the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Youth Council cleaned the Gamalakhe Swimming Pool recently.
The chairperson of the youth council, Sphelele Cele, said that young people of Gamalakhe draw inspiration from the late courageous Baba TB Molefe.
Cele said Molefe used to wake up early every weekend to do landscaping at a local ground (now called TB Molefe Stadium) so that the young people of Gamalakhe could play soccer.
“Gamalakhe is a beautiful and almost developed township. Individuals such as Lindani Mzotho and Mzandile Mkhwanazi, among others, played an instrumental role in developing this community. It is now up to us as young people to maintain this beautiful legacy,” he said.
The clean-up campaign included landscaping and cutting of grass at the swimming pool.
At the same time, little Cwecwe, who was allegedly raped at a school in the Eastern Cape, was remembered.
Little boys and girls carried placards calling for justice for Cwecwe.
The youth council’s deputy secretary, Pearl Nhlumayo, said they are committed to being the voice for the youth of RNM and working tirelessly to address the issues that affect the youth and the wider community.
Meanwhile, Lindani Mzotho and Wonder Shinga, who joined the programme, applauded the RNM youth council for the initiative.
They encouraged the council to have more educational programmes, such as the clean-up, even in schools and other communities.
