RNM workers await response to memo
Some municipal services were disrupted on Monday and Tuesday last week, but workers later returned to their duties.
Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) workers say they are waiting for a response to their memorandum that they submitted to the speaker and chief whip.
The memo was handed over at an IDP roadshow at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre recently.
Speaker Phumlani Gumbi and chief whip Teddy Hlophe accepted the memo, and the workers said they had seven days to respond, which was May 7.
Some municipal services were disrupted on Monday and Tuesday last week, but workers later returned to their duties.
South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) shop steward Zwe Chiliza said a general meeting was held last Wednesday and their response will depend on the outcome of the meeting.
Gumbi said that they have spoken to SAMWU and asked them to be a little patient because they are still trying to find ways to meet the demands set out in the memorandum.
