Creston hosts girls’ hockey challenge
Creston College will be first on the pitch at 08:00 to face Suid-Natal in the opening game.
The girls’ first teams participating in the Southern KZN Regional of the SPAR KZN Schoolgirls’ Hockey Challenge will head to Creston College this Saturday (17th).
The largest geographical area in the KZN hockey challenge welcomes 11 teams this year.
The squads will be separated into two pools, with the host team, Creston, leading Pool A.
They meet Suid-Natal Hoerskool, St Monica’s College, Southcity Christian School, Ixopo High and defending champs, St Patrick’s College.
Pool B welcomes Port Shepstone High, King Edward High, Kokstad College, Bergview High and Scottburgh High.
Games will be a rapid 15-minute burst, creating an urgency from the first whistle.
Creston will be first on the pitch at 08:00, facing one-time winner, Suid-Natal in the opening game.
Suid-Natal, which won on their last outing to Creston, will be facing the defending champs, St Patrick’s College in the final game of the fixture before the cross-pool playoff.
In the first semi-final, the top team in Pool A meets second placed in Pool B, followed by Pool A’s team in second position taking on the leading Pool B team for the second semi-final.
Closing off the day, the regional final takes place at 15.40.
Seven teams have secured a place at this year’s grand finals.
The winner of this region will be heading to the grand finals to meet nine other teams from around KZN.
So far, St Mary’s D.S.G. (Highway Regional), newcomer Maris Stella (Durban Central Regional), Epworth School (Pietermaritzburg Central Regional), St Anne’s School (Pietermaritzburg North Regional), the second newcomer, Kingsway High (Durban South Regional), Ashton International College (Durban North Regional) and recently crowned Felixton College (North Coast Regional) will be making an appearance.
