Snipers overpower Challengers in friendly
Some of the players took a break from rugby and hockey to get some cricket in.
South Coast Snipers were too strong for a less than full strength RC Challengers team in a friendly U13 fixture played at Port Shepstone Country Club.
The pitch and field were more playable than many expected after some seriously heavy rain the week before.
Challengers batted first after losing the toss and were all out for 79 in 20 overs, with extras (39) top-scoring by some way.
Zibu Malamba made the highest score, 11 not out, followed by Stiaan Fritz with 10.
Benjamin Kunz and Shaden Ellapen applied themselves dutifully before both being dismissed for eight runs.
Jacob Steynberg took five wickets for only six runs, with Oliver Smith (3-13) and Damion Bezuidenhout (3-12) their usual consistent selves.
Damion almost took a hat-trick – maybe another day.
Challengers had a few extra players, some involved in a match for the first time, so batted down to 13.
In reply, Snipers got off to the worst possible start, with Aaron Wilcock run out on the first ball via a direct throw from Marcel van Etteryk.
Bertu van Reenen top-scored with 22, caught by Lutho Menziwa off the bowling of Shaden.
He had some support from Hamzah Docrat, who made a few before being bowled by Daniel Rush.
Khulu Mlondo (13*) and Ndu Shusha (15*) finished things off in rapid fashion, with Snipers winning the game in the 18th over.
