McLarens prove too fast for everyone
Six races of the season's 24 are done and dusted.
Formula One fans experienced an exciting, dominant demonstration of McLaren’s prowess at the Miami International Autodrome – with all the glitz, glamour and wonderful American ballyhoo.
At the start, Max Verstappen took the lead, followed closely by Lando Norris, who tried desperately to overtake him at the second corner.
It was not to be, as Verstappen oversteered on the inside of the left hander leaving no room for the man from the High Street in London Town, to get by.
This setback pushed Norris back a few places, but it was not too long before teammate Oscar Piastri took up the cudgels to pressurise Verstappen.
The race went on with Verstappen defending desperately, but eventually Piastri reeled in his prey and took the lead.
It was only a matter of time before Norris did the same in the second Flying McLaren to take the cars from Woking into the top two positions, which they were never to relinquish.
Norris tried hard in the latter part to close in on his team mate.
Both cars from Mercedes did well initially, running in line astern, but eventually their young star, 18 year old Kimi Antonelli (who got pole position in the sprint race, which was won by Norris, followed by Piastri) fell back behind George Russell, Verstappen and Alexander Albon who finished third, fourth and fifth respectively.
Albon’s finish in fifth spot was good for the morale of Williams.
For much of the race the other Williams, driven by Carlos Sainz, was right behind his teammate, but he finished ninth due to tyre problems.
The sad blue and red Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finished together in seventh and eighth places and, yes, I think it is a mistake to paint the rear section of the beautiful machines from Maranello, blue.
Yuki Tsunoda, as teammate to Verstappen, just made it into the final point scoring position of 10th.
The circus now moves back to Europe for the next Grand Prix in Imola at the AutoDromo Enzo E Dino Ferrari.
The Prancing Horses had better change their colours back to red in front of the Tifosi.
