The Scottburgh Regional Court recently handed down sentences in three separate rape cases which were perpetrated in Scottburgh and surrounds.
In the first case, Zamokwakhe Khoza (38) was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Khoza accosted and raped a 30 year old woman who was walking home on September 22, 2021.
In the second case, police said that on January 19, 2023, a 64 year old woman was asleep at her home in the KwaCele area when an unknown man entered through her bedroom window and raped her.
“She screamed for help and the suspect fled. He was later identified and arrested. He appeared in court several times, “added police.
Khulani Ellias Mkhize (34) was sentenced to life imprisonment, and also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Vuyiswa Dlamini of Port Shepstone FCS was commended for both cases.
In the third case, Detective Sergeant Siboniso Gcaba of the Port Shepstone FCS secured a conviction.
A 30 year old woman was on her way home from church on May 23, 2021, when she was forcefully dragged into nearby bushes and repeatedly raped near a primary school in Mehlomnyama .
Anele Richard Khuzwayo (34) was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
