McLarens prove magnificent in Spain
The teams now fly across the Atlantic to Canada for the next race in Montreal in two weeks' time.
Oscar Piastri drove a terrific race at the Catalunya circuit to win the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, Spain last Sunday.
He and teammate Lando Norris were in a class of their own and although Max Verstappen stole second position from Norris at the start the two McLaren drivers held the first two places for the rest of the race.
Verstappen came off rather poorly this time around and was actually embarrassed to eventually finish in a lowly 10th position.
The Ferraris, which also ran two by two early in the race, had a much better run in Spain.
Lewis Hamilton was quick in practice but fell back a little in the race.
Charles Leclerc pushed hard to make it on to the podium in third place while Hamilton finished sixth.
George Russell (Mercedes) drove a gritty race and kept his car on the track despite being bumped by Verstappen.
Behind him (Russell), after doing an excellent job was the surprise of the race in Nico Hulkenberg, in the normally slow Sauber Ferrari.
This augurs well for Audi next year who have bought the Kick Sauber team.
Behind Hamilton came Isack Hadjar, who again drove a fast and mature race to bring his Racing Bulls Honda home in seventh position.
Pierre Gasly (Alpine Renault) was next, followed by unlucky old master Fernando Alonso who was next in his Aston Martin Mercedes.
The teams now fly across the Atlantic to Canada for the next race in Montreal in two weeks’ time.
It should be another McLaren benefit unless the other teams can unleash some extra speed, which seems unlikely.
The Gilles Villeneuve circuit awaits with all its beauty and extreme speed, offset by some particularly slow hairpins.
It is known to be brutal on tyres and brakes and favours the smoothest of drivers.
