Bitter sweet farewell for Ugu’s detective commander
As a detective, Brigadier Bongani Sibiya meticulously investigated a number of high profile and serious cases both in the Ugu district and throughout the province, which led to many life sentences.
Police members of both Ugu and Harry Gwala districts convened at the Margate Hotel to celebrate the rewarding career of Brigadier Bongani Sibiya, Ugu district detective commander, and to wish him a happy and well-deserved retirement.
He was appointed at the Saps in 1988, and steadily progressed through the ranks.
Sibiya recognised the inner calling he had to be a detective and allowed it to lead him on a path to success. The discipline, training and police protocols shaped him as a police officer and young man, and he benefited from the detective training and middle management courses.
As a detective, Sibiya meticulously investigated a number of high profile and serious cases, both in the Ugu district and throughout the province, which led to many life sentences. His attention to detail and protocol were unmatched.
Speeches by colleagues and retired friends with whom he worked closely extolled his abilities as both friend and fellow police officer. Detective commanders and investigation officers found him to be a source of unequalled knowledge and wisdom and are appreciative of the difference he has made in the detective environment.
Sibiya also served as acting district commissioner at Harry Gwala whenever it was necessary.
Ugu district commissioner, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele, who delivered an emotional keynote address, thanked Sibiya for his commitment in serving Ugu and Saps.
She described him as a disciplined officer and one of the pillars in the district, always displaying exceptional leadership and ambition.
Nxamagele described the occasion as bitter-sweet.
“As much as we are happy for him reaching this milestone, we have lost an officer who is endowed with limitless knowledge, astute detective skills and a wealth of experience which he takes with him.”
On behalf of Saps and the Ugu district, she wished him every happiness retirement can bring, every day of good health and undisturbed rest and relaxation.
