Rugby star needs help to attend Rhino Week
Kwanele Ntshulane needs R5200 to cover travel expenses, new kits, tracksuits, accommodation, and food for Rhino Week.
Rugby enthusiast Kwanele Ntshulane needs the public’s help for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of the Rhino Week tour with Hoërskool Suid-Natal from July 1 to 5.
The 17-year-old from Nyandezulu is making waves in the U19 Southern KwaZulu-Natal Development rugby games.
Sports coordinator at Suid-Natal High, Jaco Otto, said the lock and flank’s dedication and talent made him stand out.
Otto explained that the Rhino Week Tour supports learners from schools where rugby is not a primary sport, or where the schools don’t have a strong rugby culture.
The Marburg Secondary learner needs R5 200 to cover travel expenses, new kits, tracksuits, accommodation, and food.
Otto said they had to offer Kwanele the opportunity because of his capabilities.
“He is a talented player, and this opportunity would benefit him immensely. On tour, he will experience and learn everything the Suid-Natal rugby team does. Nobody is more deserving of this opportunity than Kwanele,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kwanele’s mom, Thobi Chiliza, said no matter how little, they would appreciate donations.
Chiliza explained that she does not understand rugby or the love her son has for the game, but she would do anything to support him.
“He started playing at the age of 13. A boy, a little older than him, asked me if Kwanele could join his team. Since then, he has been telling me he plays at Douglas Mitchell Sports Grounds in Uvongo. Sometimes, he doesn’t spend his school lunch money, so that he can use it on weekends to travel to rugby matches. If I could pay the R5200 all in cash, I would have done it, but I don’t have the money, which is why I am asking for help,” she said.
