Four-tonne donation benefits SPCA
About 561 kilograms of the donations were raised by the Beekman Group's reservation operations team.
The Lower South Coast SPCA benefited from a four-tonne donation of food, blankets, and kitty litter for animals in need last Friday.
Spreading kindness this winter, the staff of the Beekman Group embarked on a one-week initiative to gather donations.
Hannelie Millar, the group’s training development manager, said the collective effort highlighted the company’s commitment to making a difference in the lives of vulnerable animals.
“We are overwhelmed by the generosity and compassion shown by our staff and the entire community. Collecting over four tonnes of dog food is no small feat, but a testament to the ingrained Beekman spirit of giving back,” said Millar.
She added that she hoped that every single contribution, no matter how big or small, would make a real difference in the lives of countless animals in need across the region.
Millar described the annual SPCA drive as a heartwarming event for her.
She said she saw colleagues buzzing around the building selling raffle tickets, delicious fudge and other treats, all with the singular goal of supporting this vital cause.
About 561 kilograms of the donations were raised by the reservation operations team.
The Kingdom Resort gathered an impressive 160 kilograms for the cause.
“It was overwhelming to witness how willing everyone is to put their hands in their pockets for these much-needed donations. It makes me immensely proud of my work community, and equally grateful that our furry friends will be fed and cared for, thanks to such incredible efforts. The Beekman Group extends its heartfelt thanks to every individual, department, and resort that contributed to this record-breaking drive. Your kindness, dedication, and overwhelming generosity have truly made a significant difference in the lives of those who cannot speak for themselves,” she said.
Mike Davis of the Lower South SPCA said before the donation, they had just eight bags of food left in their feed room, and said the donation was godsend.
He said the Beekman Group embarks on this initiative annually for the animals.
“The compassion and camaraderie, to get together and get the food for us, is amazing. The donation helped us tremendously, thanks to the Beekman team. Our feed room is now packed to the ceiling, and we can now rest easy for a while,” he said.
He added that they are always in need and appreciate such donations.
