New shoes for needy learners
The donation will benefit learners from underprivileged communities who walk long distances to school, often without proper footwear.
Wild Coast Sun led by Mrs Bold 2024 Cynthia Nene, along with stakeholders and business donated 939 pairs of school shoes to local schools in Bizana.
Shoes were handed over to needy learners at 15 different primary schools.
Wild Coast Sun donated 200 pairs, and the remainder were contributed by individual donors who united to make a difference in the lives of learners.
The event was attended by the Department of Basic Education’s Vakele Dumela, school principals, and beneficiaries.
Dumela said that many learners from underprivileged communities walk long distances to school, often without proper footwear.
Wild Coast Sun’s general manager Henry Boekhouer said that the resort is passionate about uplifting the communities in which they operate, ensuring that no child is held back by circumstances they cannot control.
“Education is the foundation for a brighter future, and we are honoured to contribute.”
The chairperson of the Mgungundlovu Communal Property Association’s Corporate Social Investment Committee, Sikhumbuzo Mchunu, said the campaign was about dignity, confidence, and making sure that every child can step into the classroom with pride.
Nene, also the resort’s marketing manager, added that the handover would not have been possible without the generosity of Wild Coast Sun’s suppliers, tenants, staff and individuals in the area.
“Their collective efforts ensured that hundreds of children now have proper footwear, removing one more barrier to their education.”
Nene concluded that the campaign is part of Wild Coast Sun’s intention to collaborate more with business partners to empower communities.
