Umdoni service delivery projects near completion
These projects combined have created job opportunities and skills attainment for 90 local people.
The mayor of Umdoni Municipality, Mbali Cele-Luthuli, is pleased with the progress of three service delivery projects underway within the municipality.
Cele-Luthuli and the members of the Infrastructure and Housing Portfolio Committee inspected the projects on Tuesday last week.
The Dumisa Community Hall and Skills Centre in Ward 5 is currently 80% complete, Mafithini Road in Ward 9 is at 90% completion, and Nsongeni Road in Ward 16 is 70% complete.
The Malangeni Bridge, known as Bhiniva Bridge for Ward 9 and 11 communities, was also inspected.
Umdoni municipal manager, Khumbuza Dweba, and Cele-Luthuli condemned the snail-pace progression of the Malangeni bridge.
“The positively progressing projects are scheduled to be completed by September. These projects combined have created job opportunities and skills attainment for 90 local people. We are pleased with the contractors’ quality of work and their commitment to ensuring that the projects are in their final stages,” said Cele-Luthuli.
She said the reason behind oversight visits was to monitor non-performance and substandard work, and urgently implement remedial measures and protect ratepayers’ money.
“Umdoni will soon be handing over the Dumisa Community Hall and Skills Centre, Nsongeni and Mafithini Roads to the community, keeping the promise to deliver the much-needed services,” she said.
